For routine maintenance of the surfaces, always use neutral cleansers (for example, FILACLEANER or neutral soap). Do not in any case use harsh products that could irreparably damage the surface of the stone (such as acids or descaling products).
We strongly recommend that you do not place hot objects such as kettles or pans directly onto natural stone as it may cause
discolouration or staining.
If your stone is exposed to “hard water” where there is a high mineral content, you will need to take a little extra care as the cleaning properties of the FILACLEANER or neutral detergent will be weakened. You will therefore need to use these products a little more frequently so that soap scum, lime scale and the like do not have the chance to build up and congeal.

Pietra d’Avola, named as a homage to the artisanal traditions of Sicily, is a limestone, created through the process of sedimentation over centuries of layers predominantly of organic origins.
This elegant stone ranges in colour from grey-brown to a dark chocolatey tone that veers towards black. In its natural state its colour could best be described as grey, but with the addition of a colour-enhancing protective treatment such as Fila StonePlus, it takes on the vibrant rich deep brown that it is best known for.
Its gorgeous dark hues are enriched by a series of additional elements, the results of the stratification process. These can range from clusters of quartz in the form of small whitish marks and veins to scatterings of yellowish spots. These are not defects, but distinctive features that make each piece of stone wonderfully unique and are testament to its natural origins.
Pietra d’Avola may be synonymous with understated luxury, but it extremely compact and resistant to abrasions and impacts, can withstand heavy force and is also able to stand up well to frequent use. It has a low absorption coefficient and can tolerate dramatic changes in temperature, making it ideal for usage both inside and out, including areas frequently exposed to water.
For routine maintenance of the surfaces, always use neutral cleansers (for example, FILACLEANER or neutral soap). Do not in any case use harsh products that could irreparably damage the surface of the stone (such as acids or descaling products).

You will therefore need to use these products a little more frequently so that soap scum, lime scale and the like do not have the chance to build up and congeal.
You will immediately notice when your Pietra d’Avola tiles arrive that they will have a grey colour rather than the lovely rich brown of the samples you have probably seen.
This is because we do not treat it before it leaves our premises, as it is better done once installed, ideally with an enhancing product which will bring out the intense brown colour.
We recommend FILASTONE PLUS for this.
Pietra d’Avola is a compact material with a very low absorbency coefficient.
As a result most of the water-oil-repellent products on the market are too dense for it as they tend to create a film on the surface of the stone which can be difficult to remove.
This is another reason we recommend FILASTONE PLUS for Pietra d’Avola.
IMPORTANT NOTE
If you are installing Pietra d’Avola in an area where it will be frequently exposed to water, if you apply FILASTONE PLUS as recommended above, you will not require any further water-repellent treatment product.
Please DO NOT use any water sealant product such as FILA HYDROREP in combination with STONE PLUS.
It is not necessary and, in fact, may be detrimental to both the effectiveness of the treatment and the stone’s aesthetic.
The images shown on this page are indicative of the colour and characteristics of our products but cannot be 100% representative. Being made from natural materials, every tile or slab is unique in terms of tonality, colour and characteristic. These are all subject to variation depending on the type of stone and the conditions in the quarry from where it comes.

Product description
A rich chocolatey limestone, Pietra d’Avola is a dark, elegant stone that can vary in shade from greyish-brown to almost black. Its intense shade is well suited to both large-scale interior projects and small domestic objects. One of Pietra d’Avola’s most distinctive characteristics is the presence of whitish lines and splashes of colour which arise as a result of the quartz contained in the stone. Occasional yellowish marks may also be found. A hardwearing stone, it is ideal for both interior and exterior usage, as well as high traffic zones. Available in honed together with our Lithoverde®, Bamboo, Raw, Chevron, Romboo, Infinito, Cotone, Tratti, Ishiburo, Rain, CNC, Plissé, Stone Parquet, B-Fish and Dune textures.
