For the holiday season, Salvatori introduces a limited-edition version of John Pawson’s Ellipse collection crafted from Sandblasted Verde Antico marble
Ellipse in Sandblasted Verde Antico: the new limited edition by John Pawson for Salvatori
Salvatori continues its material exploration by unveiling a refined new interpretation of the Ellipse collection, designed by John Pawson in 2019. The family of home objects, defined by pure lines and essential forms, is now presented in a rare and exclusive variant crafted from Sandblasted Verde Antico marble, whose unique colour and texture bring new depth to the project.
The collection’s design is a celebration of geometry and formal purity, an expression of Pawson’s minimalist vision. Sandblasted Verde Antico enhances this language, emphasizing the interplay of texture, light and proportion that gives shape to the designer’s timeless aesthetic.

The project
“My idea was very simple: to create a family of vases and domestic utensils,” explains John Pawson. “I started by thinking of a series of forms with shared geometric traits and similar proportions, which gradually evolved into a coherent set of functional pieces, each defined by an internal curve shaped for its specific purpose.”
Each item in the collection – trays, containers, wine cooler, candle holder, pestle and mortar, soap dish and coasters – is carved from a single block of marble. The sculpted and polished curves recall the slow action of water smoothing river stones, evoking a tactile and elemental beauty.

Sandblasted Verde Antico: a technical and chromatic challenge
Sandblasted Verde Antico recalls the material aesthetic that Mies van der Rohe employed in his iconic projects of the 1950s. Its distinctive, now increasingly rare veining makes every piece unique and unrepeatable, transforming the stone into a symbol of enduring elegance.
Introduced by Salvatori in 2024, this material aligns with the brand’s ongoing research into new chromatic territories and a more decorative language. Working with Sandblasted Verde Antico requires exceptional craftsmanship: the sandblasting process presents significant challenges, as it must preserve the stone’s structural integrity while enhancing its delicate tonality. The result is a softer, more nuanced surface that complements Pawson’s essential, restrained design.

A long-standing creative dialogue
“I believe the collaboration with Salvatori is an excellent one,” says Pawson. “They have the expertise and, above all, the artisanship required to create objects of this quality and level of detail.”
“I share with John Pawson the view that true beauty lies in the essence of things,” adds Gabriele Salvatori. “In our creative dialogue, style becomes a language that unites form and material. This new version of Ellipse underscores our shared vision: rigour and simplicity, even when colour enters the equation.”
The relationship between Pawson and Salvatori has evolved over years of collaboration, shaped by a common commitment to materiality and design purity.
Ellipse in Brushed Verde Antico is released as a limited edition of six numbered pieces. It will be available exclusively upon request in Salvatori’s showrooms in Milan, New York and London, reaffirming the brand’s dedication to genuine craftsmanship and material research.
