“The perfect greige”
"The Perfect Greige": Natural Stone for a Fashion Icon's Hotel
In 2010, Giorgio Armani was completing his first European hotel — seven floors above Via Manzoni, in the city where he built his empire. He wanted stone that felt like fabric. Quiet. No drama. No heavy veining pulling the eye away from the whole. He had spent decades defining greige for fashion. Now he needed it in stone.
He found it in Querceta — Salvatori’s hometown in Tuscany. The material was Silk Georgette® Honed, a surface whose muted warmth we had spent years developing: the texture of finely woven cloth, translated into marble. When Armani first encountered it, he said: “Questo è il mio greige.” This is my greige. The decision was made.
A Salvatori Total Look: Floors, Walls, Bathtubs, and Cabinetry in Stone
Nearly 7,000 square metres of Silk Georgette® were installed throughout the Armani Hotel Milan. Every guest bathroom. Every floor. Walls, bathtubs, cabinetry — all in the same stone, an uninterrupted material conversation from floor to ceiling. A Salvatori total look in the truest sense: not a surface applied, but an atmosphere composed.
This is what Italian stone bathroom design becomes when a single material carries an entire vision. No accent stone. No contrast. Only the quiet authority of one perfectly chosen surface, repeated until it becomes immersion.
That was over fifteen years ago. The stone has not been restored, refinished, or replaced.
Silk Georgette — The Material That Defines the Armani Aesthetic
The relationship between Salvatori and Giorgio Armani extends well beyond Milan. It spans decades and geographies — from the Giorgio Armani Rome project to stores in Moscow and New York, to the Armani Hotel Dubai. Each project a new context; the same authorship running through them.
Luxury hospitality stone specification at this scale demands more than material quality. It demands a stone capable of disappearing into the design — present in every touch, invisible as an object. Silk Georgette® has that quality. It is the stone that does not announce itself. It simply is.
