We always love a challenge, and the result is a perfect fusion of stone and crystal

Great brands know how to remain relevant, striking that elusive balance between drawing on a glorious past and evolving to meet changing tastes.  With the launch of their Atelier Swarovski Home brand earlier this year, we think Swarovski have managed that evolution beautifully.

As such we were delighted when they approached us and asked us to participate in two of the debut projects for their new line. Working with the Dutch designer Aldo Bakker, we provided the Palissandro Bluette marble and pink onyx for his beautiful abstract vases, a combination of crystal and natural stone. Working with a material like crystal requires a level of minute precision not normally associated with the stone industry, and in fact we had to devise bespoke blades and tools for cutting the stone so that the crystal would fit seamlessly into the base. We always love a challenge, and the result is a perfect fusion of stone and crystal.

We also had the pleasure of providing the Bianco Carrara and Pietra d’Avola knights for Daniel Libeskind’s extraordinary chess set, a limited edition with every piece representing one of the architect’s iconic buildings from all around the world.

Aldo Bakker’s  vases are available from Selfridges, London and online at Wallpaperstore.com and Amara.com.

The chess set is available to order via Atelierswarovskihome.com.
